Rajesh Khanna’s biography

Rajesh Khanna (Hindi: राजेश खन्ना; Punjabi: ਰਾਜੇਸ਼ ਖੰਨਾ) (born Jatin Khanna on December 29, 1942 in Amritsar) is an Indian Bollywood thespian and laureate of the Dada Saheb Phalke Legend Golden Actor Award, bestowed on him in 2008. He has also served a five year tenure as MP in the Indian parliament (1991-1996).

Khanna and Dimple Kapadia separated in the early 1980s. Their elder daughter Twinkle who is an interior decorator is married to superstar Akshay Kumar and younger daughter Rinkee is married to a entrepreneur, after attending Harvard in the USA.

Khanna was a Member of Parliament for the New Delhi constituency (1991-96).

However the success perhaps caused him to be complacent, often turning up very late for shoots and throwing tantrums as well as having a whole entourage of sycophants accompany him for his shoots.[3] This behaviour coupled with the changing trend from romantic and social movies to action oriented multi-star films in the late 1970s and 1980s caused the decline of Khanna's career to some extent in term of box office rating. But he continued to perform in quality commercial films, like, Mehbooba, Karm, Anurodh, Palkon Ki Chaon Mein, Amar Deep, Thodisi Bewafai, Avataar, Amrit, Akhir Kyon, Aaj Ka MLA, Shatru, Babu, Agar Tum Na Hote, Souten, Ghar Ka Chirag,Vijay, Swarg and many more. He was a protagonist as well as in innumerable guest roles in multi-starrer social/action films such as Kudrat, Rajput, Dharam Aur Kanoon, Dharam Kanta, Ashanti and Disco Dancer. He experimented with negative roles in Red Rose where he played a psychopathic serial killer of women and in Dhanwaan where he played an arrogant businessman. By the early 1990s he quit acting for many years and served as M.P. of New Delhi Constituency during 1991-1996. During that period, he appeared in Khudai (1994). He made his acting comeback in Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999) and Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa (2002) where he played elderly father roles. In 2006 he appeared in Jaana - Let's Fall in Love which was a direct to video release. In September, 2007 he has officially announced about his second innings on big screen and has signed about eight new forthcoming films.

He is the life member of International Film And Television Research Centre and International Film And Television Club Of Asian Academy Of Film & Television. Recently he announced his appearance in a spate of forthcoming films for which he is hopeful of renewing previous success. . He is going to perform in a T.V. Serial Bhabhima with Leena Ganguly as Lead Pair of the serial.

During 1991-1996, Rajesh Khanna was a Member of Parliament for the Congress Party, from the New Delhi constituency. He has since been a political activist for the Congress Party.

Super Star Rajesh Khanna - Singular and exceptional
Super Star Rajesh Khanna was never alone. Others slept, their heads shrouded by a water jug of time. Khanna's eyes were never closed to us or to the eternity to which he is blessed to forever see. His love, that which he gave and received, could not be swept away no matter what wind prevailed. Khanna emerges from the depths of his own dimensions with stars and seashells in his hands. He is singular and exceptional and this prevails. With Rajesh Khanna we are locked in the moment of light and all prevasive memory. No truths about him are devoid of expectation. Others have been perishable monuments to history. hanna is the figure of those blessed in time on the impassivity of what is incorruptible. No heart that has felt his acting; heard the golden voice; known his magnanimity can be numbed; for he is the unforgotten action of unforgettable readiness. To be a thespian signifies light. Super Star Rajesh Khanna is is like looking at the noon day sun. Khanna is a Super Star for in his eyes the vivid darkness of the seas of our souls are made into clear waters.

Rajesh Khanna - Indian Cinema’s first Super Star
Super Star Rajesh Khanna: No rise or fall of a star has been as been quite as dramatic or spectacular as that of Super Star Rajesh Khanna. From 1969 to till date (2011), the Super Star Rajesh Khanna phenomenon swept Bollywood off its feet and the hysteria he generated was unlike anything seen before and after. As superhit followed superhit and women all over the country swooned over him, Rajesh Khanna admitted feeling ‘next to God.’ In fact, Rajesh Khanna could perhaps be called Hindi Cinema’s first superstar. Birthday: 29th December, 1942 in Amritsar. Debut Film: Aakhri Khat (1966). Major Impact: Baharon Ke Sapne (1967). Successful Films: Aurat (1967), Khamoshi (1970), Aradhana (1969), Sachaa Jhutha (1970), Do Raaste (1969), Bandhan (1969), Doli (1969), Ittefaq (1969), Safar (1970), Anand (1970), Andaaz (1971), Kati Patang (1970), Amar Prem (1971), Bawarchi (1972), Namak Haram (1973), Avishkaar (1973), Daag (1973), Aap ki Kasam (1974), Prem Nagar (1974), Roti (1974), Amardeep (1979), Thodi si Bewafai (1980), Agar Tum Na Hote (1983), Avtaar (1983), Souten (1983). Awards: Three times winner of the Filmfare Best Actor Award. He was originally Jatin, an orphan, born on 29 December 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He was adopted by the Khanna family. When Jatin took an interest in acting, his foster father disapproved, however, Jatin persisted and won the Filmfare Talent Contest in the early 1960s. Rajesh also had a brief stint as a politician and was elected Member of Parliament for a 5 year term from 1991 through to 1996 representing New Delhi as his constituency. He also starred in 3 movies during this period. He does continue to appear on the tinsel screen as a character actor, often playing the part of a parent of the leading woman/man. Rajesh also appeared in two serials ‘Ittefaque’ and ‘Apne Paraye’ on television during 2001-02 and raghukul reet sada chali aai- mega tv serial in DD 1 2009. He was the winner of six awards and was nominated for about a dozen. Enjoyed a godlike status in his prime time (early 70s) with female fans writing letters in blood to him. The hysteria was unique till ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ ‘exploded’ in early 1990’s and created a comparable mania. He recommended actor Jeetendra to go into movies. He is a life member of International Film And Television Research Centre and International Film And Television Club Of Asian Academy Of Film And Television. Known as the first Superstar of Hindi Cinema. He formed a great team with Singer Kishore Kumar and Music Director R D Burman and together they have given such songs and his movies which are immensely popular even today.
