Dear MC Sir, very humbly, “Namachivaayam” would turn out to be correct after all, in a strict sense. If it is pronounced as “namashivaayam”, one is in fact converting this name into the Devanagari script. Quite simply, one
cannot write “namashivaayam” in Thamizh; it would only be “namachivaayam”; the reality is that there is no alphabet (for the consonant) “sa” in Thamizh, only the syllable “cha” exists. Kindly confer the usage of “namachivaayam" in the following song...”Kaadal aaki ... Naathan naamam
NamachivaayamE.”

Thamizh does not have different consonants of “sa” , transliterated as “sa” “sha” and “SHA”, unlike other three Dravidian languages, MalayaLam, Telugu and Kannada. Thamizh is uniquely different from the Devanagari
(descendent of the Brahmi) script. Thamizh uses the consonant "ca” (cha) for all the four different phonetic sounds. The differences between these consonants are felt – inferred- by way of sound (as well as situation).
Certain artists such as Priya sisters , Nityashree Mahadevan and Aruna Sairam are very sensitive about this and exactly follow Thamizh usage and pronunciation, without ever changing the sound (phonetic issue) of the word. Aruna Sairam sings the word “Nama Shivaaya” in a Thamizh song as “Nama Chivaaya”, which reflects her care and sensitivity in retaining the original nature of Thamizh usage (fidelity of pronunciation as the song’s lyrics show).
