This song reflects the sacredness (sanctity) of "dhampathyam" (wedded life). It bears divine quality. The lyrics are written as a sort of spiritual communication between the hero - naayaka - and his consort - naayika (wife, sahadharmiNi) - as depicted in the film. Therefore, one shudders even to comment on this song. "Uravadu" (uravu adu) in a sense is communication even though "uravu" also means relationship. Along day and time period I yearn that we communicate (naaLOdum pozhuthOdum uravada vEndum) . This is not a routine (mundane or pedestrian or worst, cheap) song. No words would suffice to bring out the brilliance of this song and of its music. This is the height of creation by the genius team.

The genius in making…Shoulders of giants…

Manayangath Subramanian Viswanathan comes from a traditional Keralite family. He was born in the village, Elappully, in the District of Palakkad in (Northern) Kerala State. Parents : Subramanian and Narayani Kutty (or Naani Kutty), in Manayangath Illam (house), Elappully. Rose from very humble beginnings. Partnered with Tiruchirappalli Krishnaswamy Ramamurthy to compose music for a bewildering range of films. Has composed scores for over 700 films. Used novel orchestration approaches to incorporating various genres of music, which would now be termed world music, into Indian film music. We are fortunate in having Prof. Julius, who has rubbed shoulders with these great individuals (MSV, Kannadasan - the "genius" team), as an honorable member in Hummaa...

Let the passions and bonds pass-by
Who has lived in this land forever?
Path of arrival is known - but
Path of departure and the route unknown.
If all who came opt to stay
Where's the space in this sphere?
Life is just a business -in which
the birth is credit and death is debit.

This song is so philosophical that people would try to avoid listening or playing this song. The impact is so heavy that this song is expected to invoke the strains of melancholy or solitude in a man's mind. I would say this is one among the few songs that could keep us in the balance, in this material world.
Vandhadhu theriyum povadhu enge
Vaasal namakke theriyadhu !!
Vandhavar ellam thangi vittal indha
Mannil namakke idamedhu !!
The most haunting lines in the song being these lines,as, for sure,it makes you think!!
The first two stanzas are totally devoted to birth and death issues, and I think, the poet must have had an intense feeling to express himself in this area. May be, he must have been overcome by the imperceptible concepts of life and death. The third stanza reflects more the situation in the movie

Rhythmic, poetic conversation between Devi (the consort, wife) and her Deva (husband). In the movie, Devi happens to be Saroja Devi, Kannadathu Paingili! Devan, Shivaji Ganeshan, Nadikar Thilagam (Thilaka)…

A touching profound dialog! HOW MUCH MORE DECENT CAN IT GET?

A song of monumental proportions…
A song for eternity! So perfect! A wonder! What they call “exquisite”--(no mistake, no flaw, flawless, perfect)….
A SONG OF THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE THAMIZH FILMDOM. NOT SIMPLY A SONG OF THE DISTANT PAST.

A film of monumental proportions! Epoch making!

A musical extravaganza, wherein Thamizh film music reached a pinnacle. Awe inspiring!

The Swararajas and uncrowned emperors behind the evolution of music in Hindi filmdom, Shankar Jaikishan (S-J) looked up on legends, K V Mahadevan and M S Vishwanathan and Ramamoorthy, as giants and took inspiration from them. They were profoundly touched by songs such as “Idhaya veenai thoongum podhu pada mudiyuma”, “maalai pozhuthin mayakkathile naan kanavu kanden thozhi’. This prompted their use of Raaga Shivranjani (the claasic , O mere sanam; eternal “jaane kaha”, etc. I don’t know if “Idhaya veenai thoongum podhu pada mudiyuma”, “maalai pozhuthin mayakkathile naan kanavu kanden thozhi) touch us but we are infatuated with O mere sanam and the like because the exotic (not found locally but coming from a distant place) touches us more? They are all of one mother!

'Naan Pesa Ninaippathelam'

A song for eternity! So perfect! A wonder! What they call “exquisite”--(no mistake, no flaw, flawless, perfect)….

A song of the Golden Age of the Thamizh filmdom. Not simply a song of the distant past.

Understanding of the dynamics and of mechanics (and behind the scene theatrics) of “creating this treasure of a song is bound to be fascinating . NEVERHELESS AN APPRECIATION OF THE “POSSIBLE” (POTENTIAL) INNER MEANINGS OF THE TIME HONORED SONGS WITH DEEP INSIGHTS, MEANINGS AND PROFOUND PHILOSOPHY, IS WHAT WOULD PROPEL MAKING THEM SONGS FOR ETERNITY AND THE GENERATIONS TO COME.

PALLAVI of NAAN PESA NIANIPPATHALLAM…Whatever I fondly wish to talk, whatever thoughts I want to convey, let them blossom from your words (YOU ARE A VEHICLE FOR MY THOUGHTS), and the fond relationship be unto day and time (in the sense such as morning, evening, sandhya, etc.). LETTERS (words) FROM YOU, AND SPIRIT FOM ME, SO THAT WHAT IS ULTIMATELY SAID IS ALL IN LETTER AND SPIRIT. (WORDS WITHOUT SPIRIT HAVE NO MEANING CLEARLY). I COMPLEMENT (do my part or role), YOU; IN TURN YOU COMPLEMENT ME. AND YET, IT BECOMES FULL, AND COMPLETE.

Yoga is UNION. This is union of minds and hearts, UNION OF LOVE…

She says : In my thoughts and mind (consciousness) I need to become your mother, and you, you need to become the child who plays on my self”. The humming (male) appears to be from MSV.

After life or vital force (Uyir) unites, merges, with its counter part, the other Uyir, there are no worlds but “We” …”Us”…THIS IS THE JEWEL ON THE CROWN

What MSV has said is absolutely true, that the great Naushad himself found it difficult to compose for the Hindi version of this film. By his creativity and imagination MSV has scaled greatest heights which no other composer has ever dared to touch. In just one song one is able to experience a rich variety that only original and creative music can provide. It is a shame that this great composer has been treated badly when it came to the matter of recognitions, whether national or international. But I know he is worth several Oscars as each one of his compositions could be awarded an Oscar even today.
Comment for song Ponaal Pogattum of album 'Paalum Pazhamum' by JuliusPosted:04 Apr,2009
The mood inthe sequence of the film is well brought out in every word of the lyric. The Lyricist par excellence, which found the apt melody from the creative composer who was a enuis. And the singer ! Where is one like him. If any one wants to know the meaning of immortal, this is is just that. And at a time when there was no electronic intrument to manipulate sounds how did this MSV manage to create these effects? Great indeed!
Comment for song Paalum Pazhamum of album 'Paalum Pazhamum' by JuliusPosted:04 Apr,2009
All the songs in this film were of great quality because they fitted well with the sequence of the theme. Lyrics were written for the situation and music composed for the lyrics, That is why they have stood the text of time, more than fifty years.

Comment continued... Another tribute came from the great composer Naushadji, who was asked to compose for the Hindi version of this movie, and who after listening to the songs was hesitant to undertake the job, saying, "How can I replace these immortal songs'? This is one such immortal!

This song simply pours out serenity. The composition has been done so carefully to bring out the emotions of the character. The words and melody are blending so nicely to make one of the best of melodies. Here shenoy is employed not to denote pathos, but the divinity of love!
