I heard of Rameshwaram and dhanushkoti and all from my Late Mother and Late elders but never had the oppurtunity to visit this kshetram , but listening to this superb rendition and wonderful meaning given here by Smt Shyama Priya .. I feel the kshetram
Shree dikshitar is Blessed by every deity or form of Almighty only I feel else this divinity can never be felt .. For to sing His kritis, One must be a true devotee only .. I bow to You Sir Sanjay Subrahmanyam

the song is a supplication to Lord Kumaara--in varaali
But Sanjay's singing lacks in bhava or feel--singing is more mechanical

The thought process that says "being called your servant on this earth" itself is greed - is such an introspective and ego-less view. Tough to attain such humility !

This kshetra krith is addressed to Lord Siva, in the form of Linga ( Rama-linga, Vishva-linga) at the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent ---- Rameswaram/Dhanushkodi.........Meaning :------ I sing in praise of Lord Ramanathaswami, who is Lord Siva. This Lord Ramanatha, fulfills the wishes desired by devotees. He is glorified by the sacred theerthas (22 in actual numbers ) equal to the waters of Koti Theertha -- 10 million holy waters. The ever-youthful Lord Murugan adores His magnificence. He is revered by the vanara sena always. He resides at the lofty Gandha Maadana hill, situated at the tip of the sub-continent, where the oceans meet. He is the cause for the eternal bliss of Goddess Parvata Vardhini. He bestows boons to his devotees as wished by them. He removes great sins...............[ NOTES....(1) It is said that Rama installed the Siva-linga in the Ramananthaswami Temple on his return to the mainland from the island of Lanka, after killing Ravana. Rama wanted to install a Siva-linga in Rameswaram after bathing in the waters, as oblations to absolve himself of the sin of killing Ravana, who was a Brahmin. Rama sent Hanuman to Mount Kailash to get the linga. Hanuman was late, so when the auspicious time for the installation neared, Sita made a Siva-linga out of sand. This linga was then installed by Rama and is known as the Rama-linga, because Lord Rama installed it. At that time Hanuman came with the Siva-linga from Kailash. He was disappointed to find a linga already installed. Rama told Hanuman that he could remove the linga made by Sita and install the one that he brought in its place. Hanuman took hold of the linga with his hands and could not move it. He then wrapped his tail around it and tried to pull the linga out, but it did not move. The linga is said to still have the marks of Hanuman’s tail on it. To pacify Hanuman, Rama had the linga that he brought, the Viswa-linga, installed alongside the Rama-linga. He ordered that puja (worship) be performed first to the Viswa-linga. This is still being done today.....(2).....Rameshwaram is an island situated in the gulf of manner at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. A very important pilgrim centre of the Indians. Rameshwaram is the place from where Lord Rama, built a bridge across the sea to rescue his consort Sita, from her abductor, Ravana. This is also the place where Rama worshipped Lord Shiva to cleanse away the sin of killing Ravana. Both the Vaishnavites and Shaivites visit this pilgrimage which is known as the Varanasi the south. Rameshwaram is significant for the Hindus as a pilgrimage to Benaras is considered to be incomplete without a prior pilgrimage to Rameshwaram. The presiding deity is the Linga Of Sri Ranganatha, which happens to be one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of India. Rameshwaram is also popularly referred to as the 'Benaras of the south'. In order to attain Moksha it is believed that the visit to Rameshwaram is mandatory....(3) koti theertha refers to There are 22 teerthams (tanks) in the temple in which pilgrims traditionally bathe in before seeing the deities. Each tank is said to give a different benefit. Many pilgrims bathe in all 22 tanks before seeing the deity. These bathing tanks are 1) Maha-Lakshmi; 2) Savitri; 3) Gayatri; 4) Saraswati; 5) Setu Madhava, will receive the blessing of Lakshmi and purification of heart; 6) Gandamadana, will receive wealth and sins will be absolved; 7) Kavatcha, you will not go to hell; 8) Gavaya; 9) Nala, one will go to heaven; 10) Neela; 11) Sankha; 12) Sakra; 13) Brahmahatya Vimochana, Brahma was absolved from his sins; 14) Surya; 15) Chandra; 16) Ganga, attain wisdom; 17) Yamuna, attain wisdom; 18) Gaya; 19) Siva; 20) Satyamrita; 21) Sarva; and 22) Kodi.......(4) The shrine of Parvathavardhini, the consort of Sri Ramanatha, is left of the Rama-linga. You can enter this shrine through a corridor to the left of the main altar...]
