The song resembles a western number, even TMS' singing is stylized and laid-back. Is the song set in Saarangaa? For the song "Yaar antha nilavu Yean antha kanavu" both kaviarasar and MSV were impressed with the good turnout of the song and lyrics. They wanted Shivaji to do something different for this song scene. When they met up with Shivaji the latter was holding a cigarette in between his lips. That gave them an idea. They requested that he sings (mouth) out the whole song with a cigarette in his mouth. Shivaji obliged and that song came out well in the picturisation and was widely acclaimed by the audience of the day.

The sandhams in the charanams are pretty interesting. Listen to "dheivamE yaaridam yaarai nee thandhaayO" and you can feel as though the sandham is extended for a couple of syllables more than it should have been.

This is an immortal song of P.Suseela amma. However, the song is wrongly mentioned as Oorengum Thedinen. This must be Oorengum maapplillai voorvalam.

Very well said! Thanks very much. One day at a time!! The mystery and unpredictable nature (vagary) of the mind!!! After all, the universe is a random phenomenon!!!! Not an ordered one, as science teaches us!

Ever so sweet and melodious sound waves from this song accumululate as rain clouds and torrentially pour out as “honey" or "ambrosia of music” (sangheeta thaen) as it were, from the highest of heavens. Magnificent, magical and magnetic.
Comment for song Oorengum Thedinen of album 'Santhi (tml)' by T ChithanPosted:04 Dec,2010
What a "decent" song! So dignified!! Song title given as it is wrong! It is “oorengum maappiLLai”. The lady in this song talks about the festive bridegroom processions that abound about town and the mango decorations that line up house after song, and fondly, gently tenderly longs for such a day for her. Sobering!

:) yes Chithan sir..it need not be just like or not like or wrapped in a tune reflecting from a movie..It sometimes can be just the mood to listen to a particular kind of music...a person listening to rock today might listen to Indian classical..mood and situation as you know :)

Today I had a life-time opportunity to meet one of the greatest instrumentalists who was part of MSV_TKR success, he is Shyam, original name Sam Joseph. He is 70 plus. His living room is full of nostalgia of those melodious days, a pictuire of the full orchestra with MSV. I remembered him to this 'off-beat' melody, and he became enotional. He said, he was fortunate to be part of MSV team. Shyam has dome more than 300 films in Malyalam and many in Tamil. His first in Tamil was, 'KAruntheL KaNNAiyram'

Julius......around the same time, another movie PUDHIYA PARAVAI was composed by MSV (those days viswanathan & ramamurthy).......I had an opportunity to be present / visit Vijaya garden where the recording was done....it was amazing to have more than 100 instruments synchronizing and the song was "Enge Nimmadhi"....I just remembered ... this is another recollection.... this is a good song those days

Songs of those days had uyir in them.. That gave them aayur (ayul, long life ), which brought sukham.. Maybe style and fancy are high these days, and subtance and uyir less? Not that simple....We have had wonderful songs recently also. EXample- Ilaiya Raja. But times are different and listeners are different and world is different...,Bhaaratm is very different.... Now, the greetings "Hi" (the American) replaces vaNAkkam and Namaskaaram.....

Youngsters now want tempo and rhythm....nothing wrong....The same persons may look for different meaning at a different time....Music pleases mind and soul. And, is like a "balm", it is soothing. Comforting....So they there are no differences in the kinds or types of music. Individuals have different tastes....Movie music gives pleasure for some, some other music for othhers....Different kinds of music are all in the ocean of sound...Naadam, which is changeless (Naadabrahman, Divine or God)....

Yes, Anush, I am 60 + and have had the fortune of meeting and interacting withthe great MSV himself, and quite recently, hi Piano Concert with which he mesmerised every one. Besides, I was aclose friend of many of his own instrumentalists.

Comment for song Vaazhnthu Paarkkavendum of album 'Santhi (tml)' by JuliusPosted:04 Apr,2009
There was no dearth in variety and class in the composition of MSV. This song is a song meant for the youth and teh tempo and the smoothness of the melody reflect the mood of the sequence. Great singing by TMS and PBS.
Comment for song Senthoor Murugan of album 'Santhi (tml)' by JuliusPosted:04 Apr,2009
MSV always used to say that the Lyric provided him the inspiration to compose a melody and it is very true with all of his immortal melodies and this is no exception. The same song sung also by PB Srinivos is also great.Matchless Mellisai Mannar!
Comment for song Oorengum Thedinen of album 'Santhi (tml)' by JuliusPosted:04 Apr,2009
What a beautiful composition and what a melody! MSV has done what all the composers of the present time together could not achieve even with all available technology. Hats off to Mellisai Mannar.
Comment for song Nenjathile Nee of album 'Santhi (tml)' by JuliusPosted:04 Apr,2009
This song is an off-beat and out of the world song, the kind of which has never been tried before and after that. This could have beeen attempted only by the great MSV. Whistling was aptly employed to add tothe beauty of the melody and the Mandolin maestro Raju was handy to do that. The rare drumming beat done by Noel set the trend for all times. Too much!
Comment for 'Santhi (tml)' by RaviPosted:20 Dec,2008
Excellent song.. One of the best from MSV & Ramamurthy. Beautifully sung by TMS as well
Comment for song Yaar Antha Nilavu of album 'Santhi (tml)' by JuliusPosted:02 Feb,2008
TMS was basically acarnatic singer. He had sung very rare songs in films. This was an 'off-beat' composition and when MSV asked him to sing there eas aquarrel between the two, TMS asking, 'why are you troubling me like this?'. MSV persuaded and prevailed him and the result is fantastic. It is said that Sivaji Ganesan took three days to 'compose his own style of acting' to match the gretness of this song. Will we be able to listen to the likes of this any more?
