Composer: Sri. Paapanaasam Shivan
Meaning:
Oh, one who enjoys saama (musical, vedic, appeasing) music, Oh omnipresent
Oh, Shankara, Oh merciful (giver of mercy), victory to you.
Oh, one adorned the moon, one having the moon on his head
One on whom the moon plays, one who does good for the people who seek his shelter
Oh, one who is the enemy of desires,
Oh. Lord of the goddess Kalpaganayaki , Oh, One who causes terrible things
Oh auspicious Great God, Oh, wearer of skulls
Oh, longhaired one worshipped by the meek Ramadasan.

(kANak-kaN)........... One needs (vENDum) countless (kOT(D)i – literally crores) eyes (kaN) to take in (kANa) the grandeur of the procession (bavani) of Lord Siva (as the kApAlik – kapAli, the presiding deity of mylApUr) as it slowly makes it way around the mADa vIdi (the four roads that form a sort of square enclosure to the temple).......... anupallavi :----- mANikkam vairam mudal navaratnAbharaNamum
