It was popularized outside of Keralam by Mr. Vasudevan, who dedicated his life to propagating Maharaja Swati Thirunal Rama Varma’s krithis. Rose against all odds and challenges imposed by society. And, confronted all these issues all his life in the then socially rigid and culturally monopolistic Kerala.

His long-time disciple and well-known musician of the present decade, Sreevalsan J. Menon quotes mridamgam maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman as telling an audience at a concert in Mumbai: “If you want to be treated to the music of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Ramnad Krishnan and M.D. Ramanathan simultaneously, listen to Neyyatinkara Vasudevan.”

I am just listening now, first time; being so, being so thankful. Moving singing. This is a
a very charming song. Singing by MGS is very charming. The way he weaves lyrics effortlessly and just like that - spontaneously - is striking. He is fully immersed in the heavily loaded emotions of he song and its moods. Weaves those words on a thread of his music -vibration and melody- subtly blends them with mood, and transforms them to a sugandha mala (fragrant garland). And, harmony even as he sings melody.
It is just perfect- nothing to say about his singing. As they say it is just perfect in English…exquisite. Abharam!
