Extremely beautiful presentation evoking compassion......karuna rasa........."In this krithi, the reference to Narada is also significant since Narada is symbolic of music. Thyagaraja compares Narada with the bee humming around the lotus. Indirectly he announces that he is a vainika also and refers to the fact that it is only in the veena that unique musical sounds similar to vEda can be produced, is always associated with divinity and that it provides endless scope for manodharma sangIta like nEraval and swarakalpana."................from somas..........

Meaning : ----- O mother, there is no one but you on this earth who can save me. There is no other refuge. Protect me. Meenakshi, I have always believed that you are the protector of those who worship you. O one who dwells in Madura, whose lotus feet are worshipped by Saraswati and Lakshmi, you are the Katyayani who vanquished Madhu and Kaitabha.Your gait is like a swan and you reside in the vedas. O Siva, Amba, protect me quickly. Is this difficult for you? Are you not my beautiful benefactor? Sankari, you are worshipped by the Devas, led by Brahma and Indra. O Sukashyamala, sister of Syama Krishna, Kaumari, with the flawless moon on your forehead and your lips like a pomagranate fruit, you are the treasurehouse of compassion. Please protect me. I am constantly meditating on your feet. O one with the gait of an elephant, do not listen to others. Please grant me my wishes. I will always contemplate on you. O spouse of Siva, do you not gladly bestow good fortune and bliss to those who worship you, singing your glory?

Thyagaraja talks of the meaning of the name Rama.....Ra-ma............O Munificient Lord, praised by this tyAgarAja! What did the most Eminent people determine as to who You are, and how did they worship You? – whether Lord Siva or Lord vishNu or brahmA or the Supreme Lord? For the Siva mantra (OM namaSSivAya), ‘ma’ is the soul; for the vishNu mantra (OM namO nArAyanAya), ‘rA’ is the soul; I salute the great personages who understand this detail............................tv...............

This krithi extols the power of Rama bhakthi................Devotion to our rAma is indeed the very best which, by bringing to an end the wandering(s) (of the mind), protects the devotee like the eye lids (protect) the eyes! Devotion to our father rAma is indeed very best but for which – (1) would lakSmI dEvi so fervently love Him? or (2) would lakSmaNa serve Him with such dedication? or (3) would bharata, having a sharp intellect, feel ecstatic by beholding Him again and again? or (4) would Sabari offer (already) tasted (and thus unfit for offering) fruits? or (5) would Lord Siva - wearer of (crescent) moon extol Him? or (6) would the Lord bestow eternal state to the lass svayamprabha? or (7) can a monkey leap across the mighty ocean? or, (8) can an ordinary cow-herd woman tie the Lord to mortar? or (9) can bliss be heightened to this sinner tyAgarAja?.........................................tv........................
